Bigfoot

The original. Sighted more times than the mailman.

Bigfoot is the best-known cryptid in North American folklore — a massive, ape-like biped said to roam the dense forests of the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Indigenous oral traditions describe similar figures long before the name "Bigfoot" entered popular use in 1958, when a set of oversized footprints was found at a logging site in Bluff Creek, California. The 1967 Patterson-Gimlin film, though endlessly debated, remains the most famous piece of purported evidence — a few seconds of shaky footage that turned a regional legend into a household name. Thousands of sighting reports have followed in the decades since, ranging from footprint casts to distant photographs to campfire stories that never quite check out.
